Wayamba University of Sri Lanka (WUSL) is one of the latest and modern learning and research institutions in Sri Lanka. Professor C.A.N Fernando wins three SUSRED awards

It’s with great pleasure that we announce Professor C.A.N Fernando, a Nano Technology Scientist, a Senior Professor, the Head of Nano Sciences Technology Department of Wayamba University of Sri Lanka won three SUSRED (Support Scheme for Supervision of Research Degrees) awards for PhD supervision at the NSF-Award Ceremony 2016 organized by the National Science Foundation of Sri Lanka on 31st January 2017. During the ceremony, Professor Fernando stole the spotlight by being the only Sri Lankan scientist ever to receive three SUSRED awards for awarding PhDs in Nano Technology as the main supervisor. Furthermore, Professor Fernando became the first and the only academic staff member of Wayamba University Sri Lanka to win SUSRED PhD awards.

Guest Lecture at Wayamba

Guest-Lecture Event to Promote University R&D Towards Local Industry Needs 

Under an initiative to promote research and development activities targeted for helping local industries, Dr Manjula Wickramasinghe of Department of Engineering Technology organized a guest-lecture event for the academic staff and the fresh undergraduates of the Faculty of Applied Sciences. The invited speakers, Dr Gamika Prathapasinghe from Faculty of Livestock, Fisheries and Nutrition, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka, and Dr Chaminda Karunasena from Faculty of Engineering, University of Ruhuna, delivered two invited lectures on the 24th of January, 2017 at the Main Auditorium of Wayamba University of Sri Lanka, Kuliyapitiya. Dr Prathapasinghe, an award-winning inventor, used his own journey of inventing to encourage the listeners to apply their learning for innovation and commercialization. Dr Karunasena illustrated how university academics could effectively engage in development needs of the local industries through his recent successful encounters with various industries and organizations.

Position is initially for 6 months and can be extended upon satisfactory service.

Senate Research and Higher Deree Committee (SRHDC) is calling applications for the innaugural Wayamba University Research Awards from the  permanent academic staff members of Wayamba University of Sri Lanka. The awards will be presented at the Wayamba University Research Congress (WURC) to be held in late March 2017.
Interested apllicants should fill the application form provided with accurete information and send it to Senior Assistant Registrar – Academic Branch with hard copies of papers and relavent documents.

Inauguration for B.Sc. External Degree

Inaugural Session – 12th Intake for B.Sc. (Plantation Management) External Degree Program

Faculty of Agriculture and Plantation Management organized an Inaugural Session for New Students to the 12th Intake for B.Sc.(Plantation Management) External Degree Program. The event was held at the Faculty premises on 14th  January 2017 with the participation of Professor S.J.B.A. Jayasekara, the Vice-Chancellor of Wayamba University of Sri Lanka (Course Director/ B.Sc.(Plantation Management) External Degree program), Dr. D.C. Abeysinghe,  Dean of Faculty of Agriculture and Plantation Management, Dr. H.A.W.S. Gunathilaka, Course Coordinator/ B.Sc.(Plantation Management) External Degree program, Heads of Departments, invited resource persons and academic and non-academic staff members of the Faculty of Agriculture and Plantation Management. There were 117 new students for 12th Intake and the event was successfully organized with the support of academic and non-academic staff members of the Faculty.


New Hostel Complex Opend

A new hostel complex was declared open at the Kuliyapitiya premise of the Wayamba University of Sri Lanka. The new hostel complex was named in honor of the late first Vice-Chancellor of Wayamba University of Sri Lanka, Prof. VY Kuruvita. The chief guest of the occasion was Mrs. Kuruvita who graced the event by declaring the hostel complex open, and planted a mango tree to commemorate the occasion. The new hostel complex has the facilities to accommodate 400 students.
